Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Tom Suozzi on Wednesday is set to roll out a pair of digital ads highlighting his support from former Bronx Borough President Fernando Ferrer.
The ads, called "Trust" and "Friend" feature Ferrer and Suozzi, who pledge to tackle gun violence and bail law changes if the Long Island congressman is elected to the governor's office.
Ferrer, a Democratic candidate for mayor in 2001 and 2005, is one of Suozzi's most high-profile endorsers in the race and joined the campaign at its launch as its chair amid the challenge to Gov. Kathy Hochul.
The spots also feature former New York City Councilwoman Diana Reyna, a Brooklyn Democrat who is Suozzi's preferred candidate for lieutenant governor. She is running separately in a Democratic primary for the No. 2 post in state government, facing the preferred running mate of New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, Ana Maria Archila.
The ads are also part of an effort to draw in more Democratic Latino voters in the campaign amid broader national concerns the diverse demographic group is drifting away from the party.
"When people know you, they trust you," Ferrer says in the ad. "And I've known Tom Suozzi 30 years. I trust him to do something about out-of-control crime and really fixing bail reform."
The ad is being released a day after Hochul's campaign announced plans to go on TV and digital platforms with an eight-figure ad purchase, opening up her large campaign war chest in the primary.
