The Working Families Party on Friday endorsed the re-election of New York state Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and more than 60 members of the state Legislature.

“Since bringing a welcome end to Albany's 'three men in a room' dealmaking, Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins has shepherded through record funding for our public schools, strengthened voting rights, and helped protect hard-won criminal justice reforms. She has stood out as a progressive Westchester Senator and as a collaborative Majority Leader who understands the urgency of the moment," said Sochie Nnaemeka, director of the New York Working Families Party. "We are proud to support her reelection campaign."

Stewart-Cousins has been the leader of the Democratic conference since 2012, and became the majority leader after the 2018 elections which returned the party to majority control.

"I thank the Working Families Party for their endorsement," she said. "Throughout my career in public service, the State Senate, and as the Senate Majority Leader, I've fought for an economy that supports all people, a stronger democracy, and greater justice. These are values I'm proud to share with the Working Families Party, and I look forward to continuing to work in partnership to deliver progressive results and build stronger communities."

Democrats in both chambers this year are running to protect a supermajority in the state Senate and Assembly ahead of what could be a challenging midterm election for the party.
