Republican candidate for New York attorney general Michael Henry on Thursday in an Capital Tonight interview did not commit one way or the other to continuing an investigation of former President Donald Trump's business interests should he unseat Democratic incumbent Letitia James this year.

James' office has been conducting a civil investigation of Trump's company and whethe her fraudulently inflated the value of his real estate holdings in the New York City area.

"I would evaluate an investigation and if I felt the investigation should continue, it would continue," Henry said in a Capital Tonight interview. "If I felt that it was an investigation that was going nowhere, I would have to make a decision. But I'm not going to make a promise until I actually see the investigation."

His comments come after the prosecutors leading a criminal investigation of Trump in Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's office departed this week. The grand jury convened as part of that investigation is set to have its term expire in the coming weeks.

A judge this month ruled two of Trump's adult children as well as the former president himself must testify as part of the investigation. Trump has called the James investigation politically motivated and denied any wrongdoing.

Henry, meanwhile, has racked up a series of endorsements in his bid for the Republican nomination ahead of the state GOP convention being held next week on Long Island. He's recently won the backing of Republican leaders in Erie, Monroe, Onondaga, the Bronx and Schuyler counties.

"We have a pretty diverse amount of committees that have come to us both from rural areas of the state and some of the bigger city counties," Henry said. "We're excited about where we're going and anticipate we will be fully where we need to be at the convention."
