Sixteen Democrats who represent New York in the House of Representatives endorsed state Attorney General Letitia James on Wednesday as she runs for a second full term.
James is expected to secure the backing of the state Democratic Committee as the party meets in New York City Wednesday and Thursday for its convention.
“Members of New York’s congressional delegation work day in and out to make sure that the federal government works for New Yorkers,” James said. “From securing disaster relief funding after super storms to fighting for federal support for our hospitals, infrastructure, and small businesses, these public servants ensure that New Yorkers’ needs are heard and met. Their work delivers on the promise of a stronger future for New York. I am honored to earn the support of these esteemed members of Congress who represent New Yorkers in every part of this state."
James picked up the endorsement from Reps. Jamaal Bowman, Yvette Clarke, Adriano Espaillat, Brian Higgins, Hakeem Jeffries, Mondaire Jones, Carolyn Maloney, Sean Patrick Maloney, Gregory Meeks, Grace Meng, Joe Morelle, Jerry Nadler, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Kathleen Rice, Ritchie Torres and Nydia Velazquez.
“Attorney General Letitia James is one of the boldest and sharpest leaders in our state and in our nation,” Bowman said. “She steps up and holds the powerful accountable when everyone else might end up afraid. That’s the kind of passion and courage we need in the Attorney General’s Office. Tish has secured over a billion dollars in opioid relief and prevention for our state, taken guns off our streets, and stood up for the rule of law when we need it most. I am proud to endorse Attorney General Letitia James for re-election and urge all New Yorkers to join me in voting for her.”
