The Democratic governors of states that border New York endorsed Gov. Kathy Hochul's bid for a full term on Thursday as she faces a potential primary challenge later this year.
New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont and Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf, in a joint endorsement, backed Hochul's election, pointing to her first few months in office as a sign of success for her new administration.
The governors of these northeastern states have worked together on a variety of issues ranging from regional pandemic policy to addressing the flow of illegal guns into their states.
“It is a tremendous honor to receive the endorsement of my fellow governors,” Hochul said. “Whether it’s a coordinated response to the pandemic or a comprehensive strategy to prevent gun violence, our impact is greater when we tackle the tough issues we face not only as individual states but as a region. I thank each of these leaders for their support and continued partnership.”
Hochul is being challenged by Rep. Tom Suozzi and New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams for the Democratic nomination.
