A half dozen members of the New York state Senate on Wednesday endorsed Gov. Kathy Hochul's bid for a full, four-year term next year.

The endorsements come as Hochul's primary field has gotten smaller this month after Attorney General Letitia James dropped her campaign and opted instead to run for re-election. Hochul netted the endorsement of one of James' former backers in the process.

Hochul was backed by state Sen. James Skoufis, who had previously endorsed James. She was also endorsed by Sens. Andrew Gounardes, Shelley Mayer, Elijah Reichlin-Melnick, Rachel May and Sean Ryan.

“I could not be more honored to have these outstanding legislators supporting my campaign,” Hochul said. “We share a strong commitment to strengthening the middle class, restoring trust in government, and ensuring our economic recovery is felt in every community. As we continue to move our state forward, I will proudly fight alongside these leaders to make sure New Yorkers are heard.”

New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams and U.S. Rep. Tom Suozzi are both challenging Hochul for the Democratic nomination. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is openly weighing a run for governor as well.
