The field for the Democratic nomination is growing, but so is the list of endorsements for Gov. Kathy Hochul as she seeks a full term.
Hochul on Tuesday was endorsed by five members of the state Assembly who represent upstate districts, with the nods coming as Rep. Tom Suozzi officially entered the race a day earlier.
Hochul was endorsed by Assemblywoman Didi Barrett, Assemblyman John McDonald, Assemblywoman Pat Fahy, Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner and Assemblyman Billy Jones.
"After just three months as governor, Kathy Hochul has completely reset the tone of New York State government, increasing transparency, collaboration and civility. She truly knows and values New York's diverse communities and rich history all across the state," Barrett said. "I am proud to endorse Governor Hochul for a full term and can't wait to see what we can get done working together.”
Suozzi announced his bid for governor on Monday. Hochul is also facing a primary challenge from Attorney General Letitia James and New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has also indicated he plans to run.
"I am honored to have earned the support and endorsements of these five distinguished members of the New York State Assembly," Hochul said. "Over the past several months, we've worked collaboratively to deliver meaningful results for working families throughout the Capital Region, Hudson Valley, and North Country. I look forward to building on our progress to create an economy that gives every New Yorker the opportunity to thrive and succeed."
