An attorney for Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday offered an apology to the state trooper the governor is accused of having touched inappropriately, an allegation that is among the new claims in a report released last week.
“With respect to trooper number one, he wants to apologize to her,” Cuomo attorney Rita Glavin said in a CNN interview. “He has tremendous respect for her and he never in any way, shape, or form meant to make her feel as if he was touching her in a sexual way.”
Glavin has previously said Cuomo would address the trooper's allegations himself, and the governor has not offered a specific rebuttal to the claim as he has done with the other women who have accused him wrongdoing.
The woman, a member of his security detail, told investigators Cuomo "placed his finger on the top of her neck and ran his finger down the center of her spine midway down her back," according to the report.
In a separate incident, Cuomo asked if he could kiss her. In September 2019, Cuomo is alleged to have put his hand on the trooper's "belly button, and he pushed his hand back to her right hip where she kept her gun," the report stated.
The governor has repeatedly denied doing anything wrong or touching anyone inappropriately, while his legal team has said the investigation was conducted unfairly. Nevertheless, Cuomo is facing an avalanche of calls for his resignation and lawmakers in the state Assembly are moving toward completing an impeachment investigation in the coming weeks.
