Investigators reviewing allegations of sexual harassment leveled against Gov. Andrew Cuomo have expressed an interest in the outreach the governor's aides may have done to former staffers of his administration.
Ana Liss, a former aide to the governor, spoke with investigators on Thursday for two hours, and described a "sexually hostile work environment perpetuated by him and senior staff."
And she was asked about being contacted by an advisor to the governor when another former aide, Lindsey Boylan, first alleged in December Cuomo had sexually harassed her while working in his office.
"Sexual harassment on the Governor’s behalf is a significant piece of the investigation, but he neither is nor was the only person in the administration responsible for offensive conduct ranging from scatological name-calling to outright objectification of women’s bodies," Liss said in a statement.
"Among many questions, one inquiry pertained to a senior advisor to the Governor contacting me in the days following Lindsey Boylan’s first public statement about her allegations in December 2020. I look forward to continued cooperation with this effort, and I support others who may wish to come forward.”
Liss did not go into further detail about who spoke with her or the content of the conversation.
Liss has accused the governor would ask her about who she is dating and kissed her on her hand and once put his hand on her lower back while posing for a photo.
Cuomo has denied he ever touched anyone inappropriately and has resisted calls for his resignation. Cuomo has apologized for making anyone feel uncomfortable with what he said were jokes in the workplace.
James's investigation is being co-led by Joon Kim, a former U.S. attorney, and by Anne Clark, an employment discrimination lawyer. The investigation is separate from the impeachment investigation now underway in the state Assembly.
Investigators previously spoke with former Cuomo aide Charlotte Bennett, who has accused the governor of asking about her sex life and whether she would sleep with older men.
Bennett, through her attorney Debra Katz, said she spoke with investigators for several hours about the allegations and provided documentation.
