The politically influential labor union 1199 on Wednesday launched an ad campaign to boost nursing home policy changes amid a broader controversy surrounding fatality reporting by Gov. Andrew Cuomo's administration.
The ad released by the union, which has served as a key ally for Cuomo over the last decade, credited the governor and state lawmakers for backing reform plans.
The release of the campaign comes at a time when Cuomo has taken criticism for his administration's lack of public disclosure surrounding the deaths of nursing home and long-term care facility residents during the pandemic.
The ad campaign from 1199 does not make mention of that controversy but instead focuses on policy changes that will likely be debated in the coming weeks in Albany.
Democrats in the state Senate this week approved a package of measures to address the issue; Assembly Democrats are expected to take up their own changes.
"Now we need Governor Cuomo and legislators to make these reforms a reality," the ad states.
