Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday said he would be in favor of "an entire redesign" of the New York City Board of Elections after long lines and delays on the first two days of early voting this weekend. 

"I think the New York City Board of Elections did a terrible job – a terrible job," Cuomo said on Monday in a news conference. 

The state provided the Board of Elections with $9 million, a top budget aide said, to carry out early voting requirements. The Board of Elections in New York City, run by Republican and Democratic appointees, has been long criticized for nepotism and dysfunction. 

The board came under earlier scrutiny this year when absentee ballot packages were mailed to voters with misprints or some instances sent with incorrect addresses. A Rochester-based company had printed the mailings and the board said only a fraction of the ballots mailed out to voters contained the misprints.
