A national group that backs the election of Democratic candidates to state legislative seats around the country has selected a pair of Rochester-area state Senate candidates for its spotlight program.
The designation by the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee for Samra Brouk and Jeremy Cooney could lead to more fundraising opportunities and national recognition.
Both candidates are running to flip two seats in the Rochester-area as Democrats in the state Senate seek to expand their majority this election yea after winning control of the chamber two years ago.
Brouk is running for the seat held by retiring GOP Sen. Rich Funke.
“There is real energy in Western New York and our community is ready for their voice to be heard in Albany," Brouk said. "I am honored to have DLCC recognize the power of this movement and shine a light on our campaign. I am ready to fight for the community that raised me and serve as their State Senator.” -
And Cooney is running for the district being vacated by Sen. Joe Robach.
“I’m grateful for the recognition that DLCC has in upstate, NY," Cooney said. "But, the spotlight needs to be on healthcare access, funding public schools and addressing climate change. That’s the work that needs attention and that’s the work I’m committed to doing."
