A trio of labor unions this week endorsed Democratic congressional candidate Jackie Gordon in her bid for the 2nd congressional district on Long Island.
Gordon's bid was given the nod by SEIU Local 1199, UFCW Local 1500, and the New York State AFL-CIO.
“The New York State AFL-CIO is proud to support Jackie Gordon to represent the 2nd Congressional District," AFL-CIO President Mario Cilento said. "As a former educator and union member, she understands the priorities of working men and women. We need someone in Washington who will protect our health care, create more jobs, fight for fair wages and make workplace safety a priority. We look forward to educating and engaging our members to ensure a victory for Jackie Gordon on primary day,” said Mario Cilento, President of the New York State AFL-CIO."
Gordon is running for the Long Island House district being vacated by Republican Rep. Peter King, a seat Democrats have eyed as a potential pickup for the last several election cycles.
“It means so much to receive the endorsements of these labor organizations, particularly at this critical time when so many of our brothers and sisters in the labor movement are serving on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Gordon said. “It is an honor to have the AFL-CIO, UFCW, and SEIU place their trust in me as their next representative.”
