President Donald Trump has again tweeted his support for Republican candidate Chris Jacobs in New York's 27th Congressional District.

What You Need To Know

  • President Donald Trump has again tweeted his support for Republican candidate Chris Jacobs

  • The tweet was part of a series of congressional endorsements Trump made on Twitter

  • There is however, a key difference

  • Jacobs is running against Democrat Nate McMurray

The tweet was part of a series of congressional endorsements Trump made on the social media platform. It's the second time he's backed Jacobs who has both a primary election and a special election on June 23.

The first came back in February. The tweets are very similar with both complimenting Jacobs for being storng on the border policy, the 2nd Amendment and with military and veterans.

Jacobs relesaed the following statement, in part:

“I am deeply honored to have the support of our President for the upcoming primary election, and I’m proud to be the only candidate to carry his endorsement for this district. Western New York needs a conservative leader in Congress to fight for our values, and our President needs an ally who will help him fight for all Americans as we rebuild our nation."

“Our President has put his trust in me and knows I am the leader he needs in Washington with him working to get tough on China, secure our borders, and build our economy. I look forward to working everyday to help him accomplish his America First Agenda.”

There is however, a key difference. While the February tweet said Jacobs had Trump's complete endorsement, it urged people to vote for him in the special election.

The candidates Republican primary opponents, attorney Beth Parlato and Erie County Comptroller Stefan Mychajliw, argued the endorsement did not apply to their race. That argument will be harder to make now with Tuesday's tweet simply stating, "Vote For Chris on June 23!"

Trump continues to poll very well in what is arguably the state's reddest district and the candidates in the primary have focused their campaigns on portraying themselves as the strongest ally of the president.

Meanwhile in the special election, which will finally fill the seat vacated by the convicted Chris Collins, Jacobs is running against Democrat Nate McMurray.
