Business closures continue as the coronavirus continues to spread in New York state.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo has announced all barber shops, hair salons, tattoo/piercing parlors and other related personal care services would be required to close to the public as of Saturday, March 21 at 8 p.m.
The closure also impacts nail technicians, cosmetologists, estheticians, and electrolysis services commonly known as laser hair removal.
According to the governor, these services cannot be provided while maintaining social distancing.
The order, updated Thursday evening, adds the businesses to the list of industries that are being ordered to close in order to limit the spread of coronavirus in the state.
Cuomo previously ordered restaurants, bars, movie theaters, malls, bowling alleys and other venues where people gather to close.
Businesses are also being ordered to limit their on-site workers to 25 percent of its overall workforce. Industries deemed essential — food, banking, transportation, medical and health care and pharmacies — are exempt from the order.
Cuomo's new order also allows notary publics to notarize documents online.
