There are a number of things that New Yorkers can do to prepare to transition to spring weather driving and road conditions, according to the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.
They suggest that drivers check and rotate tires for safety, change out snow tires, inspect and/or replace wiper blades, top off fluids, replace air filters, update the vehicle emergency kit, test the car battery, and clean and tighten the battery terminals.
“Warmer temperatures are a great cure for cabin fever brought on by a harsh winter, like the one we had this year in New York,” said Department of Motor Vehicles Commissioner and GTSC Chair Mark J.F. Schroeder. “A lot of New Yorkers will be anxious to hit the road and shake their winter blues. By making sure your vehicle is ready for the season and adopting a few simple practices, you will help ensure your safety and the safety of others on the roads.”
After preparing their car and being ready to hit the road, GTSC and DMV officials suggest that drivers warm up their cars, showdown on wet roads, turn on headlights when wipers are on, be aware of potential road hazards, and share the road.
