National Grid is warning customers about multiple new email and phone scams.

They say that customers are being contacted by suspects claiming to be with the utility company, threatening to disconnect services if payment isn't made right away with a prepaid debit card.

The company is reminding people that they will never contact you for immediate payment by debit card or wire transfer.

"National Grid reminds customers that while it does contact customers with past-due balances by phone to offer payment options, it never demands direct payment through the use of prepaid debit cards and never accepts payment through these cards. National Grid also never demands payment with the threat of immediate disconnection," National Grid said.

Customers who believe they have fallen victim to the scam should contact their local law enforcement agency immediately.
