Voter enthusiasm for the 2024 presidential election has carried over to Election Day at upstate New York polling places, where things were moving briskly and without reported incidents on Tuesday.
There were no significant lines of voters at polling stations in Albany and Saratoga counties early Tuesday. One poll worker said aside from the typical morning rush and another pickup around lunch time, things were neither quiet nor overwhelming.
That was the overall expectation leading into this Election Day, with so many voters taking advantage of an early voting window in which nearly 3 million New Yorkers cast ballots early. So a few board of elections commissioners had predicted the possibility of thinner lines on Tuesday.
Voters on Tuesday and over the past couple of days were appreciative of the smooth operation. They called voting an obligation. Here''s what some had on their minds after casting ballots today.
“I’m not going to speak ill of the Republican Party, but it’s way past time for a woman to rule the world,” said Linda Abramowitz, an Albany County voter.
“The number one job of the president is national security. We need national security. And Trump is the only one that’s gonna do that for us,” Albany County voter Gregory Leszyk said.
It was a glimpse at how things were going at the polls, which close at 9 p.m. Tuesday across New York. As people finish work, there could be a steady stream of voters arriving to vote.
