A nonprofit in the Mohawk Valley is sending semi-trucks of donations to help hurricane victims.
What You Need To Know
- Compassion Coalition is sending donations to hurricane victims
- It's sending truckloads of everything, from mattresses to hygiene products
- Compassion Coalition could use financial help for the deliveries of these donations
“Compassion [Coalition] was started about 24 years ago to meet the urgent needs of our friends and neighbors," said Pastor Michael Servello Sr., founder and CEO of Compassion Coalition.
The organization has come a long way.
“It's expanded from a little warehouse into this massive distribution facility we have now," Servello said.
Mattresses, clothes, drinks, you name it and Compassion Coalition likely has it – new and ready for a new owner who has a need.
“Our heart is to go to the most dramatic need and try to answer it as quickly as possible," Servello said.
That mission goes beyond upstate New York.
Many of the donations Compassion Coalition is receiving are going to hurricane victims.
“They're our friends and neighbors. They’re hurting, and we've been blessed with so much product," said Servello. "So when situations like this happen, we want to respond as quickly as we can with whatever we have.”
They’ve already shipped about 10 semis full of products to the Carolinas, and are working on sending more.
“If the community wants to help, they can help us financially," Servello said. "There's always a cost for trucking, but the product versus donated, the only cost is either picking it up or delivering it.”
Servello said many of the products they receive are donated by Walmart.
Compassion Coalition is grateful for the support as it continues to help those who need it. Members say they have distributed more than $70 million in resources to communities in just this year alone.
