If your plans in the near future include leaf peeping, you may want to head to either the Adirondacks or the Catskills.

I Love New York's Fall Foliage Report puts both areas at near peak. The rest of the state is just starting to change color.

This is based on field reports from more than 85 volunteer observers for the Empire State Development Division of Tourism's I Love NY program.

Fall foliage updates are released every Wednesday afternoon at https://www.iloveny.com.

And while you are out enjoying the changing leaves, you may want to snap a photo or two.

The State Department of Environmental Conservation is holding its 3rd annual Fall Foliage Photo Contest.

Photos should be submitted to social@dec.ny.gov with the subject line “Fall Foliage Photo Contest” or “Conservationist Magazine Photo Contest.” You are asked to attach one photo per email entry and include the location the photo was taken. Pictures must be of a location in New York state.

The DEC will share submissions on their Instagram page throughout the month, with three winners announced each Friday through Nov. 1.

Those 12 winners will then be part of an Instagram story bracket and followers will vote on a grand prize winner.

The grand prize is a 2025 Empire Pass.
