The Herkimer County Fair is underway. Organizers this year cut the ribbon on a new sensory building aimed at helping kids who may need a break from the noise, as well as a museum dedicated in memory of former treasurer Geraldine Elthorp, who died last year.

Organizers said she's had an impact on fundraising for this year's scholarship program.

"We have quite a few donations that was in memory of Geraldine that we've turned around and we've raised our donation amounts," said Richard Elthorp, president of the Herkimer County Fair Association.

In addition to rides and other attractions, this year's fair will also host performances from the bands Northern Outlaws and Vinyl Logic.

Spectrum News 1's parent company, Charter Communications, is a sponsor of this year's fair, which runs through Sunday, Aug. 18.
