Work is continuing in an effort to help the city of Rome recover from last Tuesday's tornado.

Lowe's in Rome is providing free tornado cleanup supplies to residents on Monday.

The store will distribute more than 800 Lowe’s blue buckets filled with recovery items while supplies last.

Some of those items include disinfectant wipes, water, a flashlight and more.

Several tornados were confirmed to have impacted New York state last week. Surveyors in Rome determined the tornado was a strong EF-2. That means winds peaked around 135 mph. It began around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday and stayed on the ground for a little more than five miles. Multiple structures, including a church, were seriously damaged with many losing their roofs.

On Saturday, Gov. Kathy Hochul requested a federal emergency declaration from President Joe Biden to support response and recovery operations in 15 counties following a string of severe weather which recently devastated areas throughout upstate New York.
