State Police said Monday they had located the driver of a Ford Escape who crashed into an Amish buggy while driving on State Route 12 in Lowville, killing a 17-year-old occupant and injuring four others.
Jared Spaulding, 40, of Copenhagen, struck the rear of the buggy while traveling north near Yancey Road at around 7:24 p.m. Sunday, before leaving the scene, police said.
The crash caused the ejection of all five occupants from the buggy, killing an Amish teen at the site and injuring a 21-year-old male, 20-year-old female, 18-year-old female and 16-year-old male. Two were hospitalized; all four were expected to survive, according to police.
Police say Spaulding was later located at his residence. Charges are pending the outcome of an investigation.
State Police were assisted by Members of Lewis County Search and Rescue, Lowville Fire Department, Rutland Fire Department, Castorland Fire Department, Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, Lewis County Fire and Emergency Management and the Lewis County District Attorney’s Office.
