Charter Communications teamed up with the Outdoor Channel to distribute hundreds of meals to local veterans Thursday at the Lewis County Memorial VFW Post 6912 in Lowville.

It was part of the channel's "Hunt. Fish. Feed." initiative to bring attention to using game meat and fish donated by sportsmen and women to help feed those in need.

On the menu Thursday night was venison tacos, Mexican coleslaw, fresh spring fruit salad and dessert.

"This is a great example of where local government, can team up with our local VFW, Spectrum News, the Outdoor Channel where you're taking three different entities and coming together to make one good event," Lewis County Clerk Jake Moser said.

"The program over the years has expanded (to) all four branches of the U.S. military, many veterans' charities, veterans' homeless organizations," said Jeffrey Brown, director of affiliate sales and distribution for the Outdoor Channel.

Charter is the parent company of Spectrum News 1.
