This is shaping up to be Polka Tot Children's Consignment Sale’s biggest sale yet, which likely isn't surprising when you see all the items filling their space.
This sale is giving families a way to sell things they've outgrown and pick up other quality items at a fraction of the typical retail price.
"I have a blast coming to Polka Tot," said Jen Pope, the mother of a four-year old. "I luckily found the polka dot sale for the first time a couple months before he was born and purchased a bunch of my first baby gear used at great prices. And after about a year I realized that I could start selling some of his used baby clothes to baby gear."
She’s grateful for this consignment sale or as she calls it, "mom swap."
"Moms buy the stuff that I brought, and I use that money to buy the things for my son for the next year," Pope said.
Jana Roy is the owner of Polka Tot Children’s Consignment Sale. She says this is the sale’s 11th year, and it keeps growing.
"Things are so expensive. So getting things for your kids, whether it be baby equipment, whether it's the next size up in clothing, whether they're starting a new sport and they need all this stuff for that outdoor toys for summer. It's a great way to get that stuff at like 50 to 90-percent off of retail prices. But it's also a great way for moms, dads, families to sell the items that their kids have outgrown," Roy said.
The resale concept also reduces waste. Whether it’s gear, toys or clothes, families with kids quickly outgrow items.
"The average person, not household, the average person throws away 80 pounds of clothing in a year," Roy said. "So it's just a great way to make some money off of that stuff and reuse it."
Of course you don’t have to sell items in order to shop, but there are perks for sellers – even more perks for sellers who volunteer.
The work takes place well before the sale starts.
"They're going through the clothing items to make sure there's nothing that the sellers miss. No flaws, no holes, no rips or stains. They're looking through shoes for the same thing. Then we also have people out here looking through the baby gear and all the stuff on the floor to just make sure it's clean. It has working batteries," said Roy, on Wednesday as people continued to come in and drop off items to sell.
"We moms want deals," Pope said. "It's expensive. The entire world is expensive right now. And it's a great to be able to get items at a discounted price that are still in great quality."
The sale is going on all weekend with many items half-off on Sunday.
