It has been nearly two years since a 12-year-old girl in Binghamton was shot and killed while walking with her family.

To this day, no one has been charged or arrested in her murder.

"She was a friend to everyone," said Jill Coleman, restorative practices coordinator at Binghamton East Middle School.

"Even if you didn't really know her well, she was always willing to be there,” said Hayden Rick, eighth-grade student at the middle school.

Friends, family and an entire community continue to mourn the loss of Aliza Spencer.

A makeshift memorial still stands as a daily reminder of a life cut short and a call for justice.

Some of her best friends say the terrible tragedy has united their entire school.

"It's definitely crazy to think about that, that death is the one thing that has to bring people together. But it's the reality of a lot of things. But in the end, I'm just glad everyone's kind of came together to commemorate her and mourn her as a group," said Rick.

Spencer was remembered as someone who could be friends with everyone.

So much so that a “Friendship Day” has now been created to honor her memory, bringing children of all ages together with a message of peace.

“Spreading the kindness that Eliza continued to spread throughout her life at Coolidge and then here as a sixth-grader has just been amazing,” said Coleman.

Two years later, police continue to follow leads. A reward for information now sits at $32,000.
