KOA Campground in Sodus Point on Lake Ontario in Wayne County is opening early to welcome skygazers for what will be a spectacular view of the eclipse. It's in the path of totality.

When Jaclyn Gingrich and her family of five saw that South Shores, now KOA, was for sale in Sodus Point they knew they had to buy it.

"When you look at it, it is just so absolutely beautiful. When the eclipse comes, it is going to come right over. It is just going to be this phenomenal view," said Jaclyn Gingrich, owner of Sodus Point/Lake Ontario KOA. "The park will be open and we will be full and we will be right here."

It'll be a front row seat for the sun and the moon and its premiere production April 8.

"We have people coming from all over for it, from New Jersey or somewhere where they are not going to get the view. If this is something that is important to you, the eclipse is this once in a lifetime happening," said Gingrich. "My favorite site is this one over here. It is so pretty and with the sun setting over here."

Camping will be a great way to see and experience the total solar eclipse. You always make new friends at the campground whether you’re in a tent or an RV. It’s social time. What a spot overlooking Lake Ontario with views in nearly every direction.

There are just a few campsite reservations left in this quaint spot up on the bluff. The weather April 8 is likely to be chilly, so pack some warm clothes and grab plenty of firewood.

Some state park campgrounds will also be open for eclipse viewers. Seven state parks are offering campsite reservations to view the total solar eclipse. At last check, all 335 spots are sold out, but for any waitlist opportunities, you can check out newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com.
