This year's Rockefeller Center Christmas tree is on its way to New York City.

Troopers shared a video of the tree getting a police escort as it made its way downstate from Vestal, in Broome County.

The family that donated the tree said it first caught the attention of organizers last year. They shared some of the experience.

"It feels both unimaginable but also really wonderful," said Jackie McGinley. "We're so grateful that this has brought joy to our community, and that it's going to now bring joy to millions of people."

Now just a stump remains where the tree used to be on the family's property.

Rockefeller Center says the tree is an 80-foot Norway Spruce, somewhere between 80 to 85 years old, weighing about 12 tons. Once decorated, it will feature more than 50,000 lights on more than five miles of wire.
