It was evident on Tuesday, especially talking with tight end Dan Villari – frustrations are beginning to mount for the Orange, who sit in the middle of a dreadful five-game losing streak.

“When stuff hits the fan, we kind of just, kind of go down where we don't stay neutral," Villari said. "High are the highs and low in the lows and just the same thing, really this week.”

Just a few weeks ago, Villari mentioned he felt some players were not giving 100% effort on the field. It was something running back LeQuint Allen noticed in practice this week.

What You Need To Know

  • Syracuse football is in the midst of a five-game losing streak and sit at 4-5 on the season

  • After practice earlier in the week, LeQuint Allen delivered a message to his fellow teammates

  • Syracuse is set to take on Pittsburgh Saturday afternoon at Yankee Stadium

“Just seeing guys, you know, going through the motions, just telling them, picking it up," Allen said. "We've got to come out with a 'W' this week.”

Allen quickly put an end to it with a speech after practice on Tuesday.

“It was important for the speech, you know, because I felt like it was needed in the moment," Allen said. "Everybody just going through the motions. And I just felt like I needed to be the guy to step up and be vocal, you know? My message was, we're still in this, you know, we can still get a bowl game. So that was my message.”

It’s a message Marlowe Wax believes was heard loud and clear.

“He is very passionate," Allen said. "That's something that we need in the locker room right now. We need somebody to remind us that it's not over with. We got a lot of games that we still can win and just it we just locking in right now based on two things can switch up pretty fast.”

Allen has emerged as a leader of this team. His play backs it up on the field. He says it’s just the basics holding this team back.

“Consistency, discipline, you know, coming out every day and doing the same things," Allen said. "Whatever coach telling me to do and whether that's a scheme or, you know, just the effort, effort. I make sure my effort is 100% every play. Keep your eye on the prize. That's always wins and stuff like that. But, you know, just coming together to have a fun with it. Being loose, you know, you can't go out there, tighten up, you know, mess up. You got to be loose.”
