The Syracuse football team has already hit week three of fall camp. The Orange are coming off arguably their biggest weekend of the preseason, playing  their first intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday.

Head coach Dino Babers said he saw some good things as well as some not so good things from the football team. There are some areas that are going to have to be cleaned up before the season opener, but Saturday saw the return of LeQuint Allen.

After an eventful off-season that saw him face a season-long suspension from the university stemming from a fight on campus in December, he has put that behind him.

What You Need To Know

  • LeQuint Allen is back on the field for Syracuse football

  • He returned to the field this past weekend

  • Dino Babers says it's good to have him back as he looks to build on a solid showing in the Pinstripe Bowl

Allen is back at practice and could provide a huge boost to the running back room.

“LeQuint is a part of us," Babers said after practice on Tuesday. "He's part of the family. And like I said earlier, everybody needs grace and forgiveness. Where would we be without it? But he is the type of guy that you love lining up with. He's the type of guy you like going out with, the type of guy that will protect your family. I mean, he's a good guy, and we're glad he's a part of our football team.”

Practice will continue Wednesday, when we should get a chance to hear from Allen on what it means for him to be back.

Other Practice Notes:

Babers said on Tuesday that QB Garrett Shrader was not a full participant in Saturday's scrimmage as he works his way back from offseason surgery, but the hope is to start ramping things up for him this week.

"We want to get to the point where we really want to overwork his arm and we're kind of at that point now, not over the pitch count, but we want to get him a little sore and then we'll back him up," Babers said.

We also got our first look at Nebraska transfer DB Myles Farmer on Tuesday. He posted 73 tackles to go along with 1 interception a season ago with the Cornhuskers. He was recently suspended from Nebraska prior to his transfer, but Babers said the Orange did their homework on him.

"We kind of know what that was all about," Babers said in reference to his suspension at Nebraska. "We feel good about our situation, and we do background checks on everybody we bring in to not only Syracuse, but the university and this family."
