Several New York State Public High School Athletic Association's lacrosse championship games were played Friday after boys games were delayed earlier this week by diminished air quality from the Canadian wildfires.
The 2023 NYSPHSAA girls lacrosse games were played at Cortland High School and SUNY Cortland on Friday.
In Class D girls action, Skaneateles edged Cold Spring Harbor 6-5, and Bronxville defeated Penn Yan 18-8. In Class C, Bayport-Blue Point beat Indian River 14-5, and John Jay eliminated Honeoye Falls-Lima 10-8. In Class B, Garden City won over West Genesee 12-6, while Victor overpowered Bethlehem 18-5. Class A action featured Massapequa over Baldwinsville 12-6, while Fairport slipped past Suffern 8-7.
The girls final games, which will be played Saturday at SUNY Cortland, are: Skanteateles vs. Bronxville at 9 a.m.; Garden City vs. Victor at 11:30 a.m.; Massapequa vs. Fairport at 2 p.m.; and Bayport-Blue Point vs. John Jay at 4:30 p.m.
After a lengthy delay due to lightning on Friday, the boys 2023 NYSPHSAA lacrosse semifinal championships originally scheduled for Wednesday were held Friday afternoon and evening at the University at Albany.
In the East Semifinals, Farmingdale upset Scarsdale 9-5 in Class A, while Cold Spring Harbor defeated Pleasantville 7-3 in Class D. Rye defeatred Manhasset in Class C, while Garden City defeated Niskayuna in Class B.
In the West Semifinals, Baldwinsville beat Pittsford in Class A, Marcellus topped Penn Yan in Class D, Jamesville-DeWitt bested Honeoye Falls-Lima in Class C and Victor came out on top against West Genesee in Class B.
The boys finals will be played Sunday at Hofstra University.
