It wasn’t long ago that Garrett Williams suffered a torn ACL that ended a promising season with Syracuse. But Williams is working his way back.

“I’m taking all the right steps to be ready for training camp so all the people I’ve been working with, we’ve been working hard. So I’m happy with where I’m at,” Williams said.

But with him unable to participate in on-the-field drills at pro day or the NFL Combine, Williams is taking a different approach to NFL Draft process.

What You Need To Know

  • Garrett Williams looks to follow in the footsteps of other Syracuse defensive backs in the NFL

  • Williams is taking a different approach to the draft process after an injury-shortened season in 2022

  • He's eager to show off his mental side of football

“I have to kill it in the interviews," Williams said. "I have to show them I know what I’m talking about. I know ball, I know more than your average person. I have to be the best interviewee than anyone at the combine or anyone at my position. In general, I feel like I’ve done that everywhere I’ve been. The combine, private meetings, I feel like I’ve been killing it.”

His versatility is something NFL teams will covet.

“I feel like my skillset translates to where I can do anything in the secondary," Williams said. "Even them talking about me moving inside or to safety, it doesn’t do anything to me. It just excites me more that they see me as someone who is versatile, and I don’t have to be stuck at one position. I can be good at multiple positions on defense, and that will only help my career down the line.”

The draft is a moment Williams has waited for since high school. To hear his name called would be a dream come true, he said.

“I don’t think I’ll cry, but at the same time, I might," Williams said. "I know my family will cry, so that might make me cry but individually, I’ll probably just be happy. It’s been a lot of years that went into this so to be around my family and friends, which I plan to have around me, I’ll probably start crying.”
