The battle over Syracuse's Christopher Columbus monument returned to court Monday.

Two judges recused themselves as the state Supreme Court in Rochester started hearing arguments.

This latest hearing comes as the city of Syracuse is appealing a county Supreme Court decision that the city couldn't remove the statue of the controversial explorer in favor of the creation of a broader cultural heritage site.

The arguments centered on if the plan for the statue and the park was final.

The city argued the original decision was premature and a number of steps would still need to be taken before the statue would be moved while the Columbus Monument Corp. said what the mayor decided was a done deal.

No decision was made during this latest round of arguments.
