Cazenovia College announced today that Dr. John Robert Greene will be the keynote speaker for its final commencement on May 13, according to a release sent out by the college.

This year’s 198 commencement will be the schools last as they are closing its doors for good due to accelerating financial concerns, according to the college's Board of Trustees.

Greene retired this January and was known as “the national face of Cazenovia College," according to the release. Alumni said he was a supportive but challenging professor.

Greene started teaching at Cazenovia College in 1979 and retired after 42 years. He was awarded the title of Professor Emeritus.

He is best known for his work on the American Presidency in both his authorship and appearances on WCNY-TV’s “The Ivory Tower,” a political and public affairs talk show, for 17 years.

“He encompasses so much of what Cazenovia College has stood for and his dedication to the college made it most fitting that he be the one to address the college and our graduates in the last commencement ceremony,” Cazenovia College President Dr. David Bergh said in a statement.
