New York State's six-month suspension of its gas tax expires Saturday.
Gov. Kathy Hochul says the partial gas tax suspension was only meant to provide relief at the pump when prices were above $5 a gallon.
But despite continuing concerns over high inflation and double-digit increases in utilities, it seems an extension isn't on the governor's to-do list.
"At this point, we are saying those are revenues that we need to maintain our roads to make sure that we don't have potholes in the wintertime,” Gov. Hochul said. “It needs to go back toward, being dedicated toward transportation."
According to AAA, the state average for a gallon of regular currently stands at $3.39. That's roughly $0.10 lower than a year ago.
