The last time the exam was offered, Rashawn King applied and took the necessary steps. This led to a career as a human resource specialist in the municipality division.
King has been in his current position in Albany for roughly four years now. He says he enjoys what he does.
“It is my responsibility to assist the local civil service agencies in all aspects of their day-to-day operations, such as hiring, establishing tests, creating positions, as well as layoffs,” King said. “We are here to ensure everyone is following civil service law and to provide any assistance we can."
For the first time ever, the exam is being offered online. There are jobs open across the state. Those who are interested can apply from anywhere. If you do not have access to a computer or the internet, there are other options available.
“If they don't have the technology, they can visit one of our SUNY Educational Opportunity Centers,” said Civil Service Commission President and Dept. of Civil Service Commissioner Timothy Hogues. “They can visit one of the DOL career centers and sign up and take it there.”
The deadline to apply for the exam is November 30, and you have to complete the exam by December 15. The exam costs $35, but those who may not have the funds can have the fee waived under certain circumstances.
