Whether it’s eating cotton candy, getting dizzy on carnival rides or trying to win a stuffed animal, the New York State Fairgrounds had something for everyone this weekend.
From clown, to princess, to your favorite animal, or whatever you can imagine, the face painters at the Face It Airbrush stand can transform your face.
“My favorite part about face painting is the mirror moment, when the child looks in the mirror right after you paint their face and they light right up,” said Sarah Bergfjord, owner of Face it Airbrush face painting. “It’s the most rewarding part and I just love it.
Sarah Bergfjord has been working in the carnival business for 18 years and she has owned her face painting stand for the last 10 years.
“Ten years ago I took my niece to a fair that I was at and she wanted her face painted,” Bergfjord said. “When I paid to get her face painted, I looked around and I looked at everything and I said, ‘I want one of the face paints.’ I did just that. Here I am 10 years later and she’s working for me and my face paint.”
“She asked me if I wanted to learn how to face paint, that’s when I have been doing it for five years,” airbrush face painter Vanity Kelly said. “Some people might say it is [hard to learn] but I think it was easy once you learn the techniques of it and just how to be patient with others.”
The face paint is waterproof and usually lasts a couple of days.
“It’s all hyper allergenic make-up so it helps it dry immediately, so it makes it smudge-proof,” Bergfjord said. “This is all waterproof until you add soap. You could go swimming with these face paints.”
Bergfjord is from Rochester, New York and she has gone all the way from the East Coast to the West Coast with her business.
“I work from February to October,” Bergfjord said. “Since I recently had a baby, I decided to stay local for my family and now I just travel in New York.”
