Our road trip through New York continues in Watkins Glen. And while there is a long history of racing in the village, there are lots of other attractions.
You may have heard of the Watkins Glen State Park, with 19 waterfalls within 1 mile. There’s a whole morning of adventure right in the park. There are other waterfalls nearby you can visit too, some right along the road for easy photo access, like Aunt Sarah’s Falls. Get on the water with a sightseeing cruise, or by renting a paddleboard or kayak.

“Enjoy outdoors, take your family kayaking, go to the state park, walk to the different waterfalls we have, maybe go on one of the boat tours, go fishing. This is definitely an outdoor wonderland,” said Caitlin Cheney, marketing and communications manager, Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce.
Watkins Glen also has easy access to either side of the Seneca Lake Wine Trail. Go back in time and drive the road course of Watkins Glen International, before it was built and racing was done on the streets. Or experience driving on the track at Watkins Glen International.
“There’s really no spot in the Village of Watkins Glen or Schuyler County that isn’t just picturesque with lush greenery and beautiful views of the lake,” said Cheney.
One new businesses in town is Lakeside Trolley. Save some walking and buy a ticket for the hop-on, hop-off service and ride all day. Ride not only in the village, but also to nearby wineries and breweries.
Upcoming events in Watkins Glen include the Finger Lakes Wine Festival, which takes place July 8 and 9 at Watkins Glen International. Taste wines from more than 90 wineries, get a wine festival glass, and attend wine seminars.
Fourth of July fireworks are Sunday at 8 p.m. at Clute Park.
