Summer travel season is back, but with gasoline prices reaching upwards of $5 for most regions around the Empire State, it's getting tougher to stick to budgets.

While fuel may have gotten more expensive, there are plenty of nearby attractions to enjoy on just a tankful from the city of Syracuse.

Spectrum News 1 has put together some gas-friendly getaways around New York for the whole family to enjoy this summer.

On our fifth stop of the series, we're heading into the Adirondacks.

To Old Forge From Syracuse
One-way trip: 1hour, 44min / 95.9 miles
At 25 mpg:  3.8 gallons of gas
At $5 per gallon: $19.18

Full trip: $38.36

Throughout the summer, many are attracted north to the Central Adirondacks for camping. Old Forge offers six campgrounds, while many bodies of water in the Fulton Chain of Lakes are great options for boating and swimming.

Of course, it's the home of Enchanted Forest Water Safari, the largest water theme park in the state. You can also find about 130 small businesses to take advantage of in the area.

Other great options are taking a scenic chairlift ride at McCauley Mountain or enjoying a ride on the Adirondack Scenic Railroad.
