The mother and stepfather of Jordan Brooks, a 17-year-old with cerebral palsy, were charged with killing him in separate indictments on Friday morning, the Oswego County district attorney said.

Lisa and Anthony Waldron were charged with second-degree murder, second-degree manslaughter, first-degree assault and endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person, District Attorney Greg Oakes said Friday.

The court has not yet set an arraignment date.

The case of Brooks, and the way it was handled by the county Department of Social Services, generated outrage across the region.

Investigators said the teen died in May 2021 due to neglect and malnutrition, and charged the Waldrons with multiple crimes, including criminally negligent homicide.

According to court documents, Brooks’ mother, Lisa Waldron, and stepfather, Anthony Waldron, allegedly failed to seek medical attention for various ailments, including bedsores that progressed to the point of exposing bone, eventually leading to the teenager’s death.
