Oswego Police say a 13-year-old has died as a result of a motor vehicle crash in which he was operating the car.

Police say the teen, who lived in Oswego, sustained serious injuries after striking a tree near W. 6th Street in Oswego around 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

He was transportated to the Oswego Hospital where police say he was later pronounced dead.

Investigators say the teen approached a "T" in the intersection at W. 6th Street, continued through it, and struck the tree. The preliminary findings of the police investigation say driver speed and inexperience contributed to the crash. Investigators say the teen took the car without parental knowledge.

The Oswego Police Department has been in communication with the Oswego City School District, where the victim was a student.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing, and police ask anyone with information to contact Investigator James LaDue at (315) 236-4854.
