If you've been waiting for gas prices to drop, don't hold your breath as prices continue to sky rocket.
Here in New York, the average price per gallon is $4.46. That's up 6 cents from Thursday and up 17 cents from last week.
Prices have been on the rise since Russia began invading Ukraine in late February.
The Department of Energy says this recent spike comes as the European Union moves away from using Russian oil.
"Now that Europe has also acted there is still going to be a supply crunch," U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm said. "And that's of course, when you when you don't have enough supply to meet demand. That's when you see prices go up."
With no end in sight for the war in Ukraine, the Secretary of State also said that other oil and gas producers will have to pump more to make up the difference.
