Crouse, Upstate Medical and St. Joseph's hospitals in Syracuse have received the green light to resume elective surgeries.
The news came to hospital staff Friday from the state health department, ending a two month dry spell as part of an executive order given to more than 30 state hospitals back in November.
As part of an executive order signed by Gov. Kathy Hochul on Nov. 26, elective surgeries and other procedures were halted at 32 hospitals that were under a capacity strain amid a rise in COVID-19 cases on Dec. 7.
These hospitals were found to have remaining staffed bed capacity of 10% or less, or faced other capacity issues deemed to be of enough concern to limit elective procedures and surgeries.
According to the CDC COVID-19 data tracker, Onondaga County has reported a near 7% decline in hospitalizations over the last week.
