Three brothers in Baldwinsville have spent much of their lives working hard on their family farm on Route 370 in Baldwinsville. However, a few years ago, Patrick, Andrew and Douglas Reeves decided to move to New York City to pursue their dreams of having their own band.

The trio formed the group known as "Council" and has performed at many New York City mainstays. They were able to sign a big record deal a few years ago and are now looking to take the next big step.

They're seeking their next record deal and in the meantime, continuing to practice their craft in both the city and back at home.

Many in Central New York are familiar with the Reeves family for their farm stand and produce on Route 370. Every spring through the fall, they family has been known to do a little bit of everything in the community.

“Every March, we would do the greenhouses and then you work your way into planting, transplanting and then you get to the harvest, which everyone is familiar with; with the strawberries and the sweet corn,” said Patrick Reeves.

It's the Reeves' passion for music that has propelled them from the fields to the stage, as they’ve practiced together for years out of their dad’s garage on the farm.

In 2015, they moved to New York City to pursue that dream further.

“We’re different people, I think, in regular life and when we became Council, I think we became a little bit different,” said Douglas Reeves, the drummer of the band.

“We thought, 'it’s now or never,' one of those kinds of things. We had taken things as far as we could here, we rehearsed here, we wrote songs here, and we figured, let's hold our feet to the fire and actually try to do this,” said Andrew Reeves, the band's guitarist.

Their alternative pop style started becoming more popular. They recorded their first single at the end of 2016 called "Rust to Gold."

Council's "big break" moment came in 2017, when the group signed a record deal with 11-7 music. From there, the group's exposure grew, while their music began to land with a wider audience.

“Our music has been in American Idol, the Winter Olympics, FIFA Men’s and Women’s World Cup, Sweden’s Got Talent, So You Think You Can Dance, World of Dance. I think we were on CBS This Morning,” said Patrick, the group's lead singer.

Toward the end of 2017, the band decided to part ways with 11-7 record label, due to some differences in the vision for the band. Now the brothers spend time in the city and practicing here, in Central New York. They’ve got a lot in the works and are now seeking another record deal.

“The goal, obviously, is a record deal, publishing deal. That’s what we’re working on right now. In talks with certain record labels, and publishers, and really move ahead and create some kind of stability for us three is important. But, also as you’re creating music, to have that stability behind you really helps the creative process for us,” Patrick said.

Being creative along with carrying a strong work ethic could mean some much bigger things ahead for this local trio.

Council is putting out a new Christmas song this year. “I Believe In Christmas" will be released on Black Friday, November 26. For more on the band, you can visit their website at CouncilBand.com.
