With two more home football games and the men's and women's basketball seasons coming up, Syracuse athletics is changing some of the COVID-19 protocols for attending games.
To enter the Dome, kids under 12 won't need to provide any proof of a negative COVID test to enter, though everyone 12 and older will need to provide proof of vaccination or a negative test at least 72 hours before arrival.
All attendees 5 years and up need to wear masks.
County Executive Ryan McMahon says the changes make sense.
"These young people need to be masked, and they'll be vaccinated for the most part soon, as well, so we're comfortable with it," he said. "We've had big events there and our contact tracing hasn't shown any super-spreader events."
SU also encouraged fans attending home football games to visit one of the five pregame screening locations. Those who get a wristband will enter quicker.
The screening stations are at Quad, Stadium/West Lot, Manley North Lot, Manley South Lot and Skytop Lot.
For basketball games, vaccine and test result verification will take place at the stadium entry gates. No pre-screen tents are available.
McMahon says like all things during the pandemic, the procedures can always change.
"This is what professional sports are doing now, and certainly there are medical providers looking at this as well," McMahon said. "Like anything COVID, we always reserve the right to pivot and change our mind."
For the first time since February of 2020, fans will get to see the SU basketball team in person! We are counting down to tip-off here at the Dome. Make sure you check out @SPECNews1CNY for a preview! pic.twitter.com/mMVrXr3Zp1
