A man has been charged in a double stabbing of his father and a 12-year-old girl in Herkimer County.
According to New York State Police, troopers and EMS arrived at the victims' home in Jordanville just after 7 p.m. on Sept. 19 when they found Michael J. Andreev Sr., 67, and his daughter Sofia Trusova, 12, stabbed. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect, identified as Michael J. Andreev Jr., 22, was located a short distance from the crime scene and was briefly hospitalized at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse for lacerations to his neck, police said.
He is the son of the 67-year-old victim.
Police have charged Andreev Jr., with two counts of second-degree murder and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
He is currently being held without bail at the Herkimer County Correctional Facility.
The superintendent of the Owen D. Young Central School District, where Sofia was a 7th grader, said the district will be offering counseling and support for any student or staff who needs it.
