They're hunting for spirits from the past.

The Paranormal Association of the Southern Tier (P.A.S.T.) can bring you on an other-worldly tour.

It takes place at the Heritage Village, and in buildings that are centuries old.

“So, this is the one-room schoolhouse, and out here, we tend to get younger kids, just like you would in a school," said Bill Vockroth, P.A.S.T.'s president.

They spend evenings searching for people that died years ago.

What You Need To Know

  • P.A.S.T. holds ghost hunts on Fridays through July and August

  • Steuben County's oldest building is the Patterson Inn, built in 1796, and is part of the hunt

  • They say their tools provide them a window to the past to detect ghosts

“It’s comforting to me to find out that there’s more to life than just what we have here," said Vockroth.

They say their tools provide them a window to the past, sorting through the static to hear ghosts. And these ghost hunters will tell you they’re familiar with specific spirits that live there.

“OK, there’s actually three spirits, but Eliza and Henry Mack are a couple that we get most often responding to our tour groups that are here. Henry was a Civil War soldier. He survived," said Vockroth. “You never really know what you’re going to get in here. You’ll get flashlights, you’ll get touched, the REM pod will go off. Sometimes, you’ll see something move on the bed. But this is just another one of the locations that we offer.”

Historic Heritage Village has several buildings, including the oldest in the county, the Patterson Inn, which dates back to 1796.

Ghost hunters say spirits can make lights flash, sensors beep and rods turn, which at first can be surprising to most people.

“After a while, the people that are here, they see that and then they’re doing like, ‘Hey, can you turn that light on? Can you turn that light off?’ And they become comfortable with things we don’t normally accept," said Vockroth.

Discovering what lies on the paranormal side and meeting ghosts in centuries-old buildings occurs every Friday night in July and August in Corning.
