LEXINGTON, Texas — When you're one of the best small-town prospects in Texas, you get used to being the center of attention on the football field.

Lexington's Jarred Kerr welcomes the spotlight.

"Honestly, I love it. If they game plan for me and still can't stop me, I know I'm doing something right," Kerr said.

Kerr is a four-star safety who's currently ranks No. 40 in 24-7 Sports Class of 2022 prospect rankings for Texas.

"It was a little overwhelming at first," said Kerr about the recruiting process. "All the text messages coming in and phone calls and stuff. Big-time recruits usually never come from a place like this."

Kerr recently verbally committed to Texas A&M University, one of around 20 Power-5 programs which had offered the senior a scholarship. Kerr said most programs, including the Aggies, are projecting him to play safety in college.

"They like my all-around skills since I go to Lexington and play so many positions," Kerr said.

But before he heads to College Station, Kerr will have one final season playing for the Eagles on Friday nights.

"Everyone in small-town Texas loves football, so being able to put on for them, it's just really great," Kerr said. "I moved to Florida for a little bit at the beginning of my high school years and it just doesn't compare to how everyone is into it here."
