The SUNY System has announced a new online training program available to all New Yorkers completely free of charge.

It's designed to fill the education gap, creating opportunities for people with and without a high school degree.

Once someone completes the free training course and gets their certification, the program also guarantees admittance to any of the  SUNY Community Colleges or SUNY Empire State College online, with all the application fees waived.

Chancellor Jim Malatras says there is a stigma around higher education, and this new program's goal is to break that down and make further learning more accessable.

"There's a cultural divide in our country that is manifested in many different ways over the last seven years, and you see it in a whole host of areas, and education is not immune from that. And in fact, so many people avoid higher education becuase they think it's not for them and they dont think it leads to something for them," said SUNY Chancellor Jim Malatras.

Registration is already open for the spring semester, which will begin on February 1. For more information head to suny.edu/sunyforall.
