The Rome Capitol Theatre is undergoing a major facelift and could use the public's help at an online fundraiser scheduled for Tuesday.
Theatre directors this holiday season are raising donations toward refurbishing the theater, which was built in 1928 and renovated in 1939. They are streaming a special show on the theatre's Facebook page on Tuesday — which is "Giving Tuesday."
Repair work is slated to start on the roof. Next is updating other features, such as seats.
“There’s a certain number of hoops you have to jump through to make this work, so we’ve been doing a lot of jumping through hoops the last couple years, and now we’re actually ready to start construction,” Executive Director Art Pierce said.

While some of the improvements were made possible through a grant, the Capitol Theatre, which is now part of the Capitol Arts Complex, still needs support.
“In order for arts organizations, specifically, to keep going, it’s a great year to consider giving to your favorite arts organizations, in addition to the other organizations you would normally give to in the spirit of generosity during the holidays,” Development Director Kylie Pierce said.
The auditorium seats 1,788. The movie "It’s a Wonderful Life” will play this weekend at the Capitol Theatre to limited audiences due to COVID-19.
